From a vast distance of several decades, from a choice spot on the couch of the retirement home, or from a hospital bed hooked up to a gazillion tubes, one might be tempted to reflect on the best years of our lives. For some, they may be the undergraduate experience, for others the years spent raising kids or starting a successful business. For me, they were unquestionably the time spent at Columbia, between roughly 1975 and ’78. A friend referred to his pursuits in the graduate English department as “intellectual hedonism,” and I would say the same about art history.
Well, this is certainly a favorite. How many addresses did we have on the UWS? There was 107th; 106th; someplace on 114th and RSD-gosh, what an afterglow!!!
I loved that dip- It was a standard at my midwestern high school parties. Your recipe sounds a perfect substitute - and I suspect that the alternative (a package of dried onion soup mix ) would be impossible to find here in Berkeley.
Thanks for sharing this period of your life. I loved reading it and Kirk is movie star handsome. I never had ANY art history
Classes at all as I was studying French Lit in college. So I do have some envy of your life at that time ( sans the crabs and mono you mentioned last time. At the age you describe, I was already a mother. A very different life
Pretty great storytelling but I'll pass on the dip.
thumbs up. we need more art history

Bascha Mon
So good to hear about your life and then reminisce about teachers from my own past who influenced my path to the visual arts. Thanks!
